The Dairy Standard Agency (DSA) is an independent, non-profit initiative of Milk SA that works with government, processors, and farmers to promote the quality and safety of dairy products. Tania Blignaut is a South African food safety specialist with more than two decades of experience in the dairy industry, currently researching sustainability in the dairy industry.
She holds a B.Sc. degree in Food and Dairy Science and an Honours degree in Animal Nutrition from the University of the Free State. She is currently pursuing an M.Sc. degree in Livestock Production (sustainability in dairy production) at the University of Pretoria.
Since joining the Dairy Standard Agency (DSA) in 2002, she has contributed to several projects in advancing food safety, product compliance, Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), and sustainable practices.
As operations manager, Tania has led strategic initiatives since 2008, managed the National Dairy Monitoring Programme, played a pivotal role in the Dairy Audit programmes for both the processing and production sides, and represented the industry on multiple technical committees.
She is also a food safety management systems auditor, consultant, and data analyst, with expertise in HACCP, ISO 22000, and dairy-related regulation and standards, as well as advanced auditing practices.
Her work has consistently focussed on integrating scientific rigour with practical solutions to strengthen compliance, safeguard product integrity, and support the long-term sustainability of South Africa’s dairy sector.
