The Karoo Winter Wool Festival recently kicked off with a lavish gala night at Karel Theron Primary School in Middelburg.
Jacques Le Roux, general manager of the OVK fibre division, made use of the opportunity to inform the guests that OVK would like to be actively involved with the festival to celebrate wool and cement new and old friendships.
The festival also featured some amazing wool-themed paintings and sketches by local primary and high school students. The guests voted for their favourites, and the top ones were sold at the gala for a considerable price.

Wool Innovation Competition
During the event, the winners of the Wool Innovation Competition were announced. This competition, where participants can win big prizes, lends an opportunity for anyone who wants to be creative with wool and produce a functional item (not an art item).
First place went to Stephanie Bentum. In the second place was Annetjie van Huyssteen, and in the third place was Rika van Rooyen.
Wool Bale Competition
OVK also hosted a Wool Bale Competition. This was not a fleece competition, and the focus was on the quality of the wool entered and how well it was presented. Koos van der Merwe was in the first place, with Michael Hayward in the second place, and Julian and Jozua Theron in the third place (Jozua accepted the award).
