Agri X Fusion 2026 to align research and industry for the future of South Africa’s red meat sector

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Agri X, in partnership with the North-West University (NWU), will host the Agri X Fusion Red Meat Value Chain Event from 4 to 5 March 2026 at the NWU Mahikeng Campus.

This first-of-its-kind initiative brings together industry leaders, producers, researchers, feedlots, processors and policymakers to collectively address the most critical challenges shaping South Africa’s red meat value chain.

Gerhard Diedericks, director of Agri X says, “The two-day programme covers genetics, feeding, biosecurity, market access, climate resilience and value-chain competitiveness, with structured matchmaking sessions to support direct collaboration between industry, key role-players and academia”

Strong industry support for a critical sector initiative

Dr Frikkie Maré, CEO of the Red Meat Producers Organisation (RPO), highlighted the importance of creating a two-way platform that connects industry and researchers. “Producers need practical, research-based insights that address on-farm realities, but it is equally important that researchers have a platform to showcase the work already done, explain how it can benefit the sector, and help producers apply it effectively. Agri X Fusion 2026 offers exactly this opportunity: a space where research and practice can meet and influence one another,” said Dr Maré.

Agri X Fusion 2026 is designed to ensure that research investment, innovation priorities and skills development efforts are directly informed by the needs of producers, processors and value-chain partners.

Day 1 will features presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, offering practical insights and takeaways for producers, processors, and exporters.

Day 2 is reserved for pre-booked one-on-one meetings, giving participants focussed time to engage directly with industry leaders, researchers, and potential business partners, to build collaboration and strategic partnerships. This approach ensures that insights gained on Day 1 translate into actionable partnerships and tangible next steps.

All industry role-players are invited to attend or sponsor the event to strengthen visibility, secure networking opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to shaping the sector’s direction. Industry bodies and companies are also invited to participate as partners in the event to ensure visibility, relevance, and contribution to shaping the sector’s direction.
