From red meat value chain risks, an integrated farming operation to regrowth grazing and pesky ticks – the latest edition of Stockfarm covers it all.

Hennie and Liza-Mari Jonker manage a highly productive 6,6ha farm outside Kroonstad, where they run their renowned Hampshire Down sheep stud. Izak Hofmeyr visited them to see for himself why the Jonkers have made headlines nationwide with their top-quality animals.
Prof Richard Fynn of the Okavango Research Institute discusses one of the most common misconceptions among grazing managers, namely that animals should only take one bite of grass and leave the regrowth. In reality, he says, this is not how it works in nature.
Ticks can cause major economic losses, both directly and indirectly. To limit reduced productivity and losses from tickborne diseases requires strategic intervention. Stockfarm’s Izak Hofmeyr unpacks tick control strategies and treatment, also elaborating on pathogen resistance to medication.
