It’s that time of the year again! The ARC National Beef Performers Awards are coming up and as always, winners will be announced in seven categories. These awards aim to showcase the best of the best! Each of the seven categories recognises excellent beef cattle performance and breeding and production practices. The seven categories are all sponsored by various agricultural companies.

The sponsor for the 2024 ARC National Beef Cattle Improvement Herd of the Year is Plaas Media’s well-known magazine brand, Stockfarm.

More about the improvement herd of the year awards category:

This award has evolved into one of the most highly competitive and esteemed honours in the industry over the years. In addition to evaluating how finalists utilise performance recording and related technologies to enhance their herds’ genetic potential, their engagement with the industry, collaboration with fellow producers, and efforts to add value to the beef production sector are also taken into account.

The performance traits of the herds that reach the finals include reproductive rates, participation in performance testing, cow efficiency, the thoroughness of performance records, herd size and calving performance, and advancements in genetic trends. Furthermore, the contributions of the finalists to industry stakeholders and fellow producers are assessed, particularly in terms of their leadership and guidance in enhancing the industry’s value.
