During the third quarter of 2017, Zimbabwe experienced a decrease in meat production. Official figures from the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development indicate that cattle and pig slaughters were down by 8% and 10% respectively. Sheep and goat slaughters were down by 14%. The decline in slaughters can be attributed to farmers withholding stock, following improved grazing conditions, as well as improved viability for pig farmers. All Africa
