This was a fairly quiet week in the South African agricultural commodities markets with no major data releases. The relatively weaker domestic currency, coupled with commercial buying interest were the key drivers of the market.
This led to marginal gains across the board with the exception of the sunflower seed market which declined by 1% compared to the previous week (ending 6 October 2017).
The calendar for the week ahead is light with only weekly grain trade and deliveries data due for release. The weather will be a primary focus as the planting season in the summer rainfall area progresses.
Fruit and vegetable prices were volatile throughout the week with daily stock levels underpinning the market. The SAFEX beef carcass market remained flat throughout the week. –Wandile Sihlobo, Agbiz
