The mohair market was dearer on the fifth auction of the winter marketing season, showing strong gains across all mohair types. The Rand weakened considerably by 5.7% against the US Dollar, to trade at R14.20. The average market indicator gained 6% to close on R225.92/kg.

Competition was good for quality spinner types, and the average market indicator has gained almost 20% since the start of the 2017 winter season. The average price of kid mohair increased with 3.6% to R292.91/kg while young goat mohair traded 6.1% dearer at R252.41/kg. Fine adult mohair traded 5% dearer at R236.63/kg and strong adult mohair traded 5.9% dearer at R225.05/kg.
