  • Industry leaders of the South African avocado, mango, and litchi sectors recently gathered in White River to discuss the pressing challenges and opportunities in the fruit industry. From navigating BRICS trade relations and tackling Transnet and port issues, to addressing packhouse inspections, climate change, and exploring new international markets, this event was packed with insights crucial for the future of South African agriculture. Watch the insert for more.
  • Thousands of visitors from across the world visited Bologna, Italy, for the EIMA 2024 International Agricultural Machinery Expo. This year the attention was specifically on Africa and South Asia. These markets are of interest because the populations are said to increase exponentially by 2025. Plaas Media’s Susan Marais travelled all the way to Italy to attend this expo, and spoke to a few role-players.
  • Haifa South Africa was established as a subsidiary of the Haifa Group during 1998. The CEO, Motti Levin, joins us now to tell us more about the Haifa Group and what contribution they make to agriculture across the world.

  • The Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment is leading an initiative to phase out the captive lion industry, as outlined in a government gazette dated November 14, 2024. While this move aims to promote ethical wildlife management, Wildlife Ranching South Africa (WRSA) expresses serious concerns about the impact on both the lions in captivity and the broader private lion industry. WRSA CEO, Richard York, joins us now to discuss the potential consequences of the government’s plans and the future of the industry.
