“The more you speak to beef cattle farmers, the clearer it becomes that those individuals who regularly attend the Aldam Stockman’s school operate on a totally different level compared to other South African farmers. This can be attributed to the modern farming knowledge gained at this event. This year’s theme, participation in the red meat value chain through improved management practices, will further empower delegates,” said dr Michael Bradfield, organisor of the school.

According to Bradfield the lineup not only includes 19 international speakers, but great value is added every year by international guests in South Africa and in their home countries. A previous speaker, Dr Roger Hunsley was recently inducted into the USA’s Cattleman’s Hall of Fame. This was after he started similar Stockman’s schools in Australia, Ireland, South America and the USA following his visit to the Aldam Stockman’s school.

This year’s speakers include Pierre Vlok of BKB; Don Sciefelbein, US cattle farmer; Martin Seyfferdt, interbreed judge; dr Vlok Ferreira of RCL Foods; Arthur de Villiers of Arcadia Bosnmaras;  Johan Mouton of Molatek; Llewellyn Angus, cattle farmer and honourary president of the LRF (Livestock Registering Federation); Mecki Schneider, Landbouweekblad/BREEDPLAN Seedstock Producer of the Year in 2007; Prof Azwihangwisi Maiwashe of the ARC; prof Kevin Kirkman of the University of KZN; Prof Ben Hayes of the centre for animal science in Australia; Jason Strong of the Australian Agricultural Company; John Purchase of Agbiz; Koos van der Ryst of the RPO; Aggrey Mahanjana of NERPO and AFASA; Nick Serfontein of the Sernick Group and dr Buks Olivier, agricultural researcher. –
