The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) invited stakeholders in the sector to provide comments and input on the draft document on animal identification, recording and traceability (AIRT) in South Africa.

A national AIRT system is an indispensable tool in safeguarding the national livestock herd through animal disease prevention and preparedness for disease outbreaks, thus ensuring speedy containment and limiting damages to national and international trade, DAFF stated.

The document, “Draft document on registration, approval, traceability and movements recording of terrestrial animals in South Africa for disease control”, was recently published and comments can be send before 30 April 2017 per email to – DAFF
